About

Born in London in 1993, Henry Welch is an architectural modelmaker by training,
now working as a ceramic artist based in Zürich. Drawing on his background in
architecture, Henry shifted his creative focus to ceramics, balancing his
understanding of abstraction, materiality, detail, and scale. He runs a small business
from his Zürich studio while teaching at ETH Zurich’s Department
of Architecture. His practice merges digital fabrication techniques with traditional
handcrafting skills, exploring new possibilities in clay for composition and form-
making.

Henry’s work is inspired by the postwar Anti-design movement, resulting in bold,
abstract pieces that echo the rhythms of nature, microscopic life, and plant forms.
His creations are infused with playful energy, evoking the spirit of cartoons and
animation, while maintaining a strong sense of fun, care, and craftsmanship. He
believes that ceramic art has the power to bring joy to people’s lives—an ambition
that continues to motivate his practice.
